Mexia Photography in Big Spring, Texas, offered “BFF” photo sessions this year, and the images that were produced celebrated friendship in a way words can hardly define. That’s because the saying has always been, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” And Claudia Mejia, Mexia’s creative owner, has defined friendship goals with her photos that we never even realized we had.

Mejia said that the inspiration for her “BFF” mini photo sessions came from a conversation that she and her husband had on the importance and value of friendship. She took the bull by the horns and chose to host the sessions in honor of National Best Friend Day on June 8, 2019. “I often vent to him on how I wish I had my own BFF. This inspired the desire to capture the joy in having a true friendship and sharing those moments of goofiness and laughter with my clients,” Mejia told It’s a Southern Thing.

The photographer wanted to make the entire focal point around friendship. Subsequently, the sole prop used in each session, aside from something to sit on, was the display of the year the friendship started, printed out on a basic blackboard. Mejia’s thinking was that by keeping the shoot as simple as possible with minimal props, the photos would be more about the friendship on display and the unique personalities of the subjects. For a first-time offering, these sessions received a tremendous response, which spurred her to schedule similar sessions later in 2019.

The subjects of each of the “BFF” photo sessions were asked to bring their own props which represented their friendship. As you can see by the images in this feature, food and beverages played an integral role in how they related to one another. Hot Cheetos, Chick-fil-A, pickles, and Starbucks coffee were among the front-runners, as well as wine!
