What do you do with 50 toilet seats? Make art, of course! Barney Smith, a former San Antonio plumber, is a talented artist with an unusual canvas—toilet seats. The idea of painting a toilet lid came one day as he bought plumbing supplies. Seeing 50 seats ready for the garbage, he bartered for them, and a new art style was born. Fifty years later, as he grows closer to his 100th birthday, Barney still embellishes seats—toilet seats, that is. He’s even glued old facets to some, creating sculptures of sorts. He’s created over 1,200 rare treasures for the rear. You can view Barney’s seats at his San Antonio museum. It’s a free exhibit.
