TPWD Vanity License Plates: Driving Texas Conservation Efforts

Texas has a lot of vanities when it comes to our state. And why not? If you’re from Texas, say it loud and say it proud! And what better way to do so than with an equally proud vanity plate from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Not only do they have great pictures, and clearly show you’re a Texan and proud of it, but proceeds from their purchase go directly towards some great state programs which everyone can benefit from and enjoy!

A shining example of this is the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department having two beautiful license plates specific to state parks to choose from: one featuring a tent with a campfire under a starry sky, and the other featuring our gorgeous state flower, the bluebonnet. These conservation-themed vanity license plate designs help to fund our state parks through their annual fees (our last check was $30, on top of registration fees) a portion of which goes directly to the TPWD.

Aside from the state parks, TPWD has a number of other license plate designs featuring nature and conservancy in Texas, a link for which is provided here. You might wonder whether contributions from the sale of the plates actually amount to much, but in fact, they do. As an example, the license plate design featuring Big Bend National Park has had more than 2,000 vehicles registered under its design since its debut in 1998, raising almost $600,000 for the park’s maintenance and improvements.

With designs to show your love for Texas rivers, wildlife, hunting, and fishing, there aren’t a lot of bases the TPWD hasn’t covered. Their most recent release specific to state parks came with the tent design which won a contest in 2014. Others that are featured with respect to conservancy include several non-profit charity plates such as Ducks Unlimited, Save Texas Ocelots, and the Coastal Conservation Association. Look great and help out a great cause with a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department specialty license plate – they’re the Texiest.
