Marfa has been the home of many a unique event in Texas, and the 12th annual Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love is no exception to this rule. Had you been following those that regularly attend this event on their social media pages, the level of envy you’ll experience from not having been there will make you the purest color of green…as it should. The Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love, taking place September 28 to October 1 this year, will have you traveling to West Texas in a heartbeat because it means experiencing an amalgamation of music, food, and art that is akin to an awakening.

El Cosmico is the setting for this not-your-typical-festival, including teepees, yurts, and unique vintage campers. This weekend of celebration features art workshops, lifestyle product demonstrations, trade displays, exercise seminars, and live entertainment from A-list performers. This year’s lineup includes such artists as Lee Ann Womack, Fiona Apple, Wilco, and Nina Diaz, to name only a few. Camping, sandlot baseball, art installations, and so much more really do await you in a community atmosphere in Marfa.

If you’re going, and wish to camp (p.s. you can bring your own tent!) El Cosmico has amenities and shower/bathhouses to help you look your most selfie-worthy on this adventure! More traditional accommodations are also available; however, they are often booked well in advance of this fantastic festival. Please check with El Cosmico ahead of time by visiting the link provided here, in order to determine whether that’s a viable option for you at this time. Other accommodations in the area include Hotel Paisano and Hotel Saint George as well as the Thunderbird Hotel (which is located in downtown Marfa.) There are also Airbnb options which are available during the festival, and if you’re not afraid of the drive, the town of Marathon has additional places to stay and eat, which are approximately 50 minutes away.

As with many other festivals, you’ll need to plan accordingly to eat, have money (there are ATM’s, however availability of large banking facilities shouldn’t be expected), get rest, and simply enjoy yourself. To make the most of your time at the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love, visit the El Cosmico “Happenings” page link provided here. All 2017 workshop and vendor listings are provided together with past festival photos at the link provided here as well, along with a FAQs section and details on festival ticket purchasing. If you’re going, enjoy. If you’ve read this far, per the event website, our advice is simply “…buy the ticket. Take the ride.” You never know what kind of fun you might be missing out on in Marfa!
