Those who lost their pets during the chaos of Harvey should not give up hope. There’s an app/website called “Finding Rover” that can help reunite pet owners with their dog and cat. By downloading the app or clicking here, those with lost dogs or cats can upload a photo of their pet which will be used to search the database. If the pet is a match with a “found” animal, the owner will be alerted. If the pet hasn’t been logged into the system yet, it will continuously try to find a match using “facial recognition” technology as more pets are uploaded.

On their Facebook page, Finding Rover explains that they work alongside shelters to upload photos of lost pets, and people can search up to 3,000 miles around their area if they suspect that their pet was relocated (which is possible during a disaster situation.)

WFAA quotes John Polimeno, CEO, and founder of the company, as saying, “A dog or cat is a beloved family member, and if he or she goes missing, it can be devastating to everyone involved, especially in times of disasters. We want to do everything we can to safeguard our dogs and cats from being lost forever.”
