Little kids love playing with cheap make-up products that are full of color and glitter. For many families, Claire’s is the perfect stop on a mall trip to pick up something pretty to play with. “You assume that when you’re purchasing it, it is safe,” Kristiana Warner, a concerned Rhode Island mother, told WPRI. Warner works at a law firm that focuses on asbestos litigation, and since the firm was sending off makeup to be tested in a North Carolina lab, Warner decided to send off her six-year-old daughter’s favorite makeup from Claire’s, as well. She claims that she was beyond shocked to find that the makeup came back as positive for asbestos. “I remember literally sinking to the ground just being like, ‘Oh my gosh!’” she told the news.

“Exposure to asbestos has been linked to mesothelioma, which is fatal,” ABC 13 writes. They report that Claire’s has pulled 17 different products from their shelves after hearing the claims. The company plans on investigating the issue further.

Since the products have been sold for some time now, many customers will already have it in their homes, and they could have even been given as Christmas presents. WPRI says that customers can ask Claire’s for a refund if they are uncomfortable due to the alleged claims.
