Tarpley, Texas is a small unincorporated community in Bandera County. It is positioned only 12 miles southwest of Bandera, Texas. Tarpley was formed back in 1899 when a post office named Hondo Canon was moved there. The community was named after the postmaster’s son Tarpley Prickett. A smithy and store were built in 1990. Tarpley’s economy has been growing and the population has been steadily increasing.
Tarpley is famous for their distinguished restaurant, Mac & Ernie’s. They are open Friday and Saturday from 1:00 AM- 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM- 9:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM -11:30 AM and 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM. The restaurant serves hamburgers cheeseburgers, steaks, chocolate tres leches, catfish, quail, grilled tuna, baked potatoes, lemon-blueberry pancakes, and much more at Mac & Ernie’s.
