With its inaugural event held in 1997, the Texas SandFest is now gearing up to hold its 20th anniversary in Port Aransas, and past attendees couldn’t be happier! Growing into a three-day festival from its humble beginnings, it now includes both amateur and professional artists from around the world in competition. From April 21-23, the beach at Port Aransas will come alive with art, and the sculptures the participants design and build with Texas sand are truly stunning.

Each year the entrants are given a different theme, but the underlying message/mission for the event remains the same: “Texas Sandfest Gives Back.” Proceeds from the event are given to local charities and help to build scholarships for high school seniors. Held in the same portion of Port Aransas beach annually, event organizers have provided a handy map to identify where on the beach the amateur and professional sculptor areas are located, together with a children’s play area, music, beer garden, food, vendors, and a golf cart shuttle to get you around.

Run completely by volunteers, Texas SandFest shoulders the tourist season in the area, in efforts to ensure visitors are comforted by the fact that very few people will be in town for other activities. This leaves plenty of room and ability to get around for those coming specifically for the event. Its annual dates are selected by the predicted tide charts for the Gulf of Mexico, using what will be the lowest tides for that year as the scheduled dates. Tickets aren’t sold in advance for this event, but wristbands can be purchased at the gate. Adult admissions are set at $10 and kids under 12 get in free of charge. Texas SandFest is a wonderful way to experience Port Aransas and the Texas Gulf Coast while contributing to charity and education at the same time!
