Nothing beats a hot summer day spend lounging on a lake. There is a reason it’s an iconic summer image. Whether on the water or hiking along the banks, the lake beckons. The only question that remains, is which lake? Not to worry – here are 10 of the best lakes in the Austin/Texas Hill Country area.

An excellent choice for fishing, boating, hiking, biking, and capturing beautiful pictures of nature. For excellent pictures, mirrorless cameras are a perfect choice, and you can read reviews here. This family friendly lake is nestled near the city of Austin. Don’t miss the view from the 360 Bridge suspended over the lake as well!

2. Lake Marble Falls

Enjoy fishing and boating on this resevoir along the Colorado River. Situated near the town of Marble Falls, most of the property along the shore is privately owned. There is an annual drag boat race during the Lake Marble Falls Lakefest

3. Lake Georgetown

Enjoy boating, hiking, swimming, camping, and fishing on this reservoir along the San Gabriel River about 3 miles West of Georgetown.

4. Ladybird Lake

A major recreational spot for Austin locals and visitors alike. Parks, water sports, swimming, hiking, and so much more await at this homage to the late Lady Bird Johnson who, in the 1970’s, spent a great deal of effort to the town beautification project.

5. Canyon Lake

Canyon Lake is a hot spot for recreation in the area. Their are eight park areas around the lake for camping, swimming, boating and picnicking. Comal County also provides several boat ramps for access to the lake. Hiking, biking and equestrian trails are available, as is limited hunting (archery only).
