Yesterday, the BBC released a one minute long teaser video revealing who will play the role of the 13th Doctor in “Doctor Who.” Since 1963, “Doctor Who” has taken viewers into a supernatural world where an alien, or Time Lord, known as “the Doctor” travels through time on a space ship called the TARDIS that looks like a British police box. The show is a massive hit in the U.K. and has a large fan base in America, as well.

The previous 12 actors playing the Doctor have all been male. For the first time, the BBC announced that Jodie Whittaker will take on the role. “It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait,” she told the BBC.

Of course, those who lack the imagination to see the Doctor as a woman have stormed onto social media saying they’ll never watch the show again and that the series has been ruined due to political correctness. With each announcement of a new Doctor, many fans have resisted the change but eventually come around to the new actor. Though Whittaker might be under the toughest scrutiny yet.

The Doctor will regenerate during the Christmas special this year.
