2017 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival Texas Fun for the Whole Family

Kicking off with the traditional “Abrazo Ceremony” between city representatives from Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, showing solidarity, brotherhood, and good faith, the 2017 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival will commence on Friday, March 24. Taking place at the midway point of the Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 at 5:30 p.m., the ceremony will occur between Eagle Pass entrepreneur Roger Perez and famous Mexican singer and composer Carlos Coral who will represent Piedras Negras. The event is sponsored by the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico International Good Neighbor Council. Signifying the bond between the two border cities, the ceremony will also mark the opening of the International Friendship Festival which takes place in Eagle Pass annually, and this year happens March 24-April 2.

The festival carnival will run the entire length of the event, for which tickets will be available on-site. As part of the festival, an International Mini-Golf Tournament will be held in Eagle Pass on Saturday, March 25 at the City of Eagle Pass Mini-Golf Course starting at 1 p.m. as well as a Spring Talent Show to be held at the city’s amphitheater from 3-6 p.m. Celebrating Flamenco music and dance, a new addition to this year’s International Friendship Festival is the “Flamenco Night” which will be held on Saturday, March 25 at the C. C. Winn High School Auditorium. A fun evening filled with amazing displays and presentations of Flamenco music and dance, the event promises to be great entertainment and family fun. Sunday, March 26 features both professional and amateur bowlers from the US and Mexico coming together in the annual Amistad Bowling Tournament, being held at 1 p.m. at Desert Lanes in Eagle Pass. And Monday, March 27, the Eagle Pass International Good Neighbor Council will be hosting a Multi-Cultural Forum at 5 p.m. at IBC Bank-Eagle Pass and similarly, the Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Council will host theirs on Tuesday, March 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Piramide del Sol in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. The intent of the forums is to continue building healthy relationships between the two cities with a focus on positive lifestyles.

March 30 and April 1 are set aside for the “Noches Mexicanas” which are sponsored by the Eagle Pass Evening Lions Club, including music, food, vendors and family entertainment at Shelby Park, and the International Friendship Festival Mayor’s Reception will be hosted by Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu on Friday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. at The Victorian House in downtown Eagle Pass. And finally, the International Friendship Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 11 a.m. in the city of Eagle Pass, Texas, with more than 100 entries including marching bands, drill teams, floats, decorated cars, and people celebrating the event. The festival closes on Sunday, April 2 with the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras 5K Border Run as well as being the last day to enjoy the carnival rides, games, and family fun.
