2017 Texas Medal of Arts Honorees

The 2017 Texas Medal of Arts Honorees were announced earlier this year. The Texas Medal of Arts Awards, which is a signature Texas Cultural Trust’s event. will take place in Austin in its ninth biennial year, according to its website, on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 21-22, 2017 at the Texas Performing Arts, at The University of Texas at Austin.

This year’s Honorees include a distinguished list of artistic talent from all areas of our great state of Texas hailing from Theatre, Film, Journalism, Dance, Visual Art, and Architecture among the backgrounds of few. The announcement ceremony of the honorees took place in San Antonio’s Tobin Center which also happens to be one of this year’s honorees.

This year’s lifetime achievement award will be presented to Houston native and Country music legend Kenny Rogers. Co-Chairs for this year’s event are Chairman and CEO of the San Antonio Spurs, Peter Holt and local businessman and arts patron, Guillermo Nicolas.

The Texas Cultural Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which strives to be an advocate in promoting the importance of the arts in educating our children. “Supporting the arts ensures Texas’ cultural and economic advantage for the future,” shares on its Facebook page. The Texas Medal of Arts highlights the legends and rising stars in their field of excellence to showcase not only their talent but contributions they have made to strengthen the economy and ensure Texas continues to trailblaze in the arts.
