2019 Ford Edge: Fun to Drive in the City or Country

The five-passenger Edge ST is powered by a 2.7-Liter V-6 Eco Boost engine, married to an 8-speed automatic transmission delivering a combined city/highway 25-mpg. This Edge is a beautiful vehicle. Admittedly, this could come from the white platinum met tri-coat exterior with an ebony perforated leather interior.

The ST trim will be my focus, yet Ford continues to offer the Edge in the SE, SEL, and Titanium trims. Inside the cabin, leather-trimmed seats accompany a leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls. The new Elite Package offers a more classic exterior and blacked-out trim.

The new ST has a slimmer black mesh grille, plus wider and improved suspension. Edge rests on 21-inch premium painted aluminum wheels and dual exhaust tips.

The Edge offers plenty of room for folks and storage. The deep center bin and other open areas in front of the gear select dials near the cup holders are ideal for smaller items. Its mid-size door sleeve compartment has additional water and book size storage. Maximum cargo space behind rear seat is 37.5 cu.ft. While maximum towing is 3,000 pounds.

The take away for this driver is the tight bucket seats and seat backs. A larger size and less fitted would be welcomed.

The display screen has great clarity and color, but lacks adequate size. Task buttons take up space on the screen, so little room is left for things like navigation to be properly viewed.

Ambient lighting adds to the comfy feeling of the cabin. A 60/40 split easy-fold rear seat, auto diming rearview mirror, and dual-zone auto climate control are real plus factors.

The freshened Edge is a solid mid-size SUV that offers numerous Safety/Security features as standard. SOS Post Crash Alert System, Personal Safety System, Tire Pressure System, and a variety of airbag components are featured.
