3 Delicious Details about Dripping Springs
It Has Great Hill Country Pioneer Heritage

Founded by three families that left Mississippi in search of a new life, Dripping Springs was settled by the group in January of 1854 on what is now Wallace Mountain. Dr. Joseph McKegg Pound and his wife, Sarah were one of those families. They constructed their home and a farm that same year, and Dr. Pound was one of the area’s first doctors. He also fought in the Mexican and Civil Wars. The Pound family maintained the farm for over 130 years, with four generations living in the home. The house was also a hospital and a church prior to being donated to the city by the family. Now called the “Pound House” Farmstead and Museum, it’s recognized as a state as well as national historic landmark and was restored by the community 2003. Public tours of the main house, bar, smokehouse, blacksmith shop and additional outbuildings are provided on a scheduled basis, and the resident blacksmith also holds Friday and Saturday demonstrations.
