Located at the intersection of Farm Roads 462 and 470, the small town of Tarpley can easily be missed. But just because the small settlement only boasts a population of about 30 people doesn’t mean it not worth stopping off in. Whether you’re hungry, looking for a relaxing retreat, or searching for a live band to dance along to, Tarpley has you covered.

1. Mac And Ernie’s Roadside Eatery

Mac and Ernie’s has been featured of Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer, and in Southern Living Magazine. Menu items like their famous Cabrito Burger, Ancho Chile Honey-basted Quail, Grilled Tuna with Roasted Jalapeño Mayonnaise, and Grilled Pork Tenderloin with a Sweet and Sour Vietnamese Dip really put them on the map.

2. Williams Creek Depot

In 1900, Williams Creek Depot was built along the banks of Williams Creek and offered weary travelers a place to rest. Over 115 years later the turn-of-the-century home still offers travelers a place to rest. The remodeled home not only retained the original wood paneled walls and 115 year old Tennessee v-crimp roof but now sports an indoor dining area, covered patio, cook shack, and large outdoor stage shaded by ancient oak trees. Order a drink at the bar or dinner at the cafe while listening to live music every weekend, while enjoying the beautiful Texas Hill Country as your backdrop.

3. 7 Canyons Lodge
