This Man Has Made Over 3,500 Birdhouses and His Reason Will Surprise You

Thomas Dambo began a daunting project seven years ago: to build birdhouses for cities all over the world. His reason? Birds are some of the last animals that willing live in cities and are running out of places to nest.

Based out of Denmark, he has traveled to European cities to install birdhouses along the sides of buildings that permit it. As Dambo wrote on Bored Panda, he began the project “because [he] thought it was important to make sure that [the birds] can continue living [in the cities].”

He turns the birdhouses into brightly colored art that not only draws the birds to them, but also makes them additions to a city, not detractions from it.

His camouflage birdhouse project also blends them into the background, too, so they can be easily installed everywhere. He also specializes in creating these birdhouses out of recycled and salvaged materials so that he’s not creating more waste and instead using trash as a resource.

Dambo’s central goal in this project is to remind “us that it’s important to leave room for birds in the urban world,” which is a beautiful way to keep track of nature and ensure that we’re all able to live together peacefully.
