4. Walnut Springs Park

Located at 317 W Court Street, Walnut Springs Park is along a tributary of Guadalupe River that offers beauty and tranquility. In Walnut Springs Park, you can enjoy walking, jogging, and biking along the network of walkways and bridges.  Also don’t forget your binoculars or camera because this park is known for its various birds: Red-Tailed Hawks, Cardinals, Golden-Cheeked Warblers, Cranes, Herons, and you might even see a Golden Eagle. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

5. Son’s Island on Lake Placid

This beautiful island environment is a 3.5 acre of paradise located at 110 Lee Street. You access Son’s Island by a private hideaway entrance and crossing a 100 foot wooden bridge. It’s open every day, Memorial Day through Labor Day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  After Labor Day weekend until November this paradise is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Son’s Island is closed during the months of December, January, and February.  Overnight stays in RVs only.

Son’s Island has 26 open cabanas that will make you feel you are on a tropical island! The amenities of the cabanas include: BBQ pit, water/electricity, chairs, bartops, and barstools.  Lake recreation activities include:  kayaking, fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, boating, swing rope, and a water slide.  Call 1-888-993-6772 for prices and to make reservations.  This is a magical place for family reunions, picnicking, and events such as weddings.
