5 Memorial Day Weekend Concerts to Catch in the Hill Country

There’s no better way to enjoy Memorial Day weekend, and the unofficial kick-off to summer, than a concert in the Hill Country. From local favorites to Nashville stars, the Texas music scene is alive and rockin’ close to home this weekend! Read on for five great chances to experience some amazing live music right here in the Hill Country.

1. The Kerrville Folk Festival

The Kerrville Folk Festival begins this weekend, and runs through June 12. With a variety of musical performances slated for Memorial Day weekend, including Terri Hendrix, The Deer, and Johnsmith on the Main Stage, as well as workshops, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and delicious food, the Kerrville Folk Festival is a great time for the entire family!

2. Hal Ketchum at Gruene Hall

One of the best places in the Hill Country to experience great country music is Texas’ oldest dance hall. Gruene Hall has a great line up set for Memorial Day Weekend, kicking off with hometown singer turned country music legend Hal Ketchum. Ketchum sold more than 5 million albums beginning in the 1990s, with #1 hits including “Small Town Saturday Night” and “Hearts Are Gonna Roll.”

3. Eli Young Band at Floore’s

The Grammy-nominated Eli Young Band will be playing at John T. Floore Country Store in Helotes on Friday. If you’ve never gotten to experience a concert at Floore’s, you’re missing out on a southern classic. This authentic Texas dance hall and café has been in business since 1942, and is an unique experience all its own. With number one hits like “Crazy Girl” and “Even if it breaks your heart”, the Eli Young Band concert is a great way to kick off your Memorial Day weekend.

4. Josh Abbott Band at Whitewater Amphitheater

Texas Tech alum and local favorites, the Josh Abbott Band, will bring their fun and funky Texas musical style to the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels this weekend. If you’re a fan of classic country, downhome folk, or country rock, Josh Abbott Band is a can’t-miss. Known for “Oh, Tonight” and “Hangin’ Around,” this band knows how to put on a show. The location isn’t too shabby, either, as this riverside venue is a gorgeous place to experience the nature of the Canyon Lake area.

5. Wade Bowen and San Antonio Missions Baseball

If you’re looking to pair some great music with some exciting baseball action, why not check out both when Texas country singer Wade Bowen performs immediately following the San Antonio Missions’ Texas League game with the Arkansas Travelers. As part of Mission Mitsubishi’s Memorial Day Weekend Celebration, Bowen takes the Wolff Stadium stage after the game, followed by a fireworks extravaganza.
