6 Texas ‘Zoo Boos’ To Get Your Little Ones in the Spirit This Halloween

One thing is for certain: Halloween in Texas is never boring. From creepy haunted houses to visit to ghost tours that makes your knees knock, there’s never a shortage of activities to delight ghosts and goblins of all ages. One activity that is a sure-fire hit with children are the “Zoo Boo” events that typically take place at your local zoo. Most zoos offer trick or treating for the little ones and have special displays and exhibits that incorporate animals and the Halloween season. It’s sure to be a fun, safe outing for the whole family. Here are six of the best Zoo Boos in the state:

1. San Antonio Zoo

Hosted by Whataburger, weekend days beginning in September through October 29, the San Antonio Zoo transforms into a friendly, non-spooky Halloween celebration. The zoo will be decked out with Halloween fun complete with trick-or-treat stations, a fun hay maze, pumpkin painting, dance parties, and plenty of games.

2. Austin Zoo

Boo at the Austin Zoo is a fun-filled evening for ghosts and goblins of any age. Held on weekend days in October from 6:30 until 9 p.m., come dressed in your Halloween finest (no adult masks, please) and enjoy the Zoo-wide event including the Zoo bedecked in Halloween spookiness, nocturnal animals, unlimited trips through the Haunted Mansion and an eerie train ride.

3. Cameron Park Zoo (Waco)

The Zoo Boo at the Cameron Park Zoo takes place for one night only, on October 31 from 6 until 8 p.m. Offering candy stations placed throughout the park for trick or treaters, face painting, bounce houses, and games the Cameron Park Zoo also has some spooky exhibits to elicit a squeal from even the bravest of visitors.

4. Abilene Zoo

The Abilene Zoo hosts their Zoo Boo on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Dress up your little beasts and bring them out to the zoo for a day of trick-or-treating, costume contests, games, and animal fun!

5. Houston Zoo

What’s the best way to celebrate Halloween? At the Houston Zoo! Houston’s largest family-friendly Halloween event is back and better than ever! The Houston Zoo Boo is open weekend days in October from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Fridays in October from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

6. Fort Worth Zoo

Enjoy treat stations, carnival games, animal shows and more. This entertaining daytime event is free with Zoo admission and packed with fun for the whole family. The Fort Worth Zoo’s event will be held October 27, 28 and 29.
