Saturday, August 19, saw the 2017 Clear the Shelters event take place in Texas, as it did nationwide in support of thousands of pets looking for loving homes. Over 60 North Texas shelters were identified as participants, together with a number in East and West Texas, the Texas Hill Country, the Panhandle, as well as in Gulf Coast cities. In all, close to 700 shelters nationwide were involved, waiving or reducing their adoption fees in efforts to help Clear the Shelters.

Partnering with NBC affiliates and Telemundo stations in order to try to find forever homes for thousands of pets, this year’s event took place on Saturday, which included the efforts of the SPCA of Texas. Last year’s event saw the successful adoption of over 53,000 pets. This year’s campaign was, of course, hoping to break that number and place deserving animals in loving homes nationwide.

With 2017 marking the third annual event, the numbers for pet adoption have officially been released at over 60,000 across the U.S., however, the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone saw the placement of more than 7,000 pets! It was reported that some people were lined up outside of shelters at 2:30 a.m., waiting to get the pet of their dreams! The Clear the Shelters event was indeed a success again this year, and many more are planned for the future as long as there remains a need to find these loving animals healthy and happy homes.
