This Guy Learns Exactly Why Texans Wait in Line for Salt Lick BBQ
Salt Lick BBQ in Austin is synonymous with a good time. Whether or not you think it’s the best barbecue there is, you at least have to admit that it’s pretty spectacular.
Munchies is VICE’s digital video channel dedicated to food, and they sent their host, Pat Dean, to Salt Lick to sample some beef ribs and record his experience. It seemed to change his life, as expected.
There are a few things to be said about this video, and the first is: did he skip the line? Call me old school, but I prefer a ‘wait in line like everyone else’ mentality. Secondly, why does he seem so surprised that people wait for over four hours for good barbecue?
However, his reaction to trying those beef ribs is exactly what you’d expect. I won’t ruin it for you, but he was so in awe of those flavors that he couldn’t control himself as he eats with Salt Lick owner, Scott Walker. It seems that Pat Dean not only learned why barbecue is so delicious, but also why it’s one of the best social events in Texas.
Warning: he uses a few expletives over the course of the video. The BBQ is that good.
