Couple Receives a $900 Uber Bill for a Ride to a Festival
While getting a ride through Uber to Summerfest in Wisconsin, a couple knew they were in for a big bill. They agreed on a $200 fee due to surge pricing, but while taking the already expensive ride, the couple added a few stops to the itinerary. The driver put in the stops, as they normally would, but passengers Keith and Audra Tubin had no clue their bill was skyrocketing.
“I wake up the next morning with a fraud alert on the credit card. $898,” Keith told ABC. At first, when he contacted Uber, they weren’t exactly sympathetic. They said that since the original $200 was for a different final route, and the surge price was 8.6 times what a normal trip would cost due to the festival, the $898 bill still stands. But Fox News reports that the company has since said they will refund the majority of the trip, and only charge the couple $214.
The nearly $900 bill would come somewhat close to another incredibly high Uber charge, but this one makes a bit more sense. A DFW area Uber driver recently took two businessmen who couldn’t wait on a flight 650 miles (11.5 hours) away from Nashville! WFAA says the bill was around $1,100.
