911 Operator Helps Fort Worth Mother Deliver Baby on Her Own

A Fort Worth woman is celebrating the birth of happy and healthy baby boy after giving birth with only the help of a 911 operator.

When Allison Marquardt started having labor pains, she quickly realized no one would be able to get there in time to help her with her birth. Instead, she frantically called 911 and was connected with operator Kate Gillinger.

“I thought it was just going to be one of those we get there we transport and then we go to the hospital,” Gillinger explained to CBS11. “But it didn’t turn out that way.”

Instead, she was forced to instruct Marquardt to lay on her bedroom floor and go through a series of breathing exercises to deal with the pain. Just a few minutes later, the sound of a baby crying let Gillinger that everything had worked out just fine.

“You know that makes you a little nervous when things don’t go quite as quickly as you want them to,” Gillenger explained. “I can’t imagine doing that by yourself and experiencing that alone.”

Although the situation made Gillenger uneasy, Marquardt had only great things to say about the way that her 911 operator and her team dealt with the unconventional birth. Now, Marquardt and her new son Augustine have made a friend for life from a rather scary situation.
