High School Students Host a True Senior Prom for Local Nursing Home

A nursing home in Florida recently held a senior prom with local students, giving the elderly residents a chance to dance and dress up once more.

The high school students of TERRA Environmental Research Institute decided to host a very special event for the residents of The Palace Nursing & Rehab Center. Inspired by the idea that a high school senior’s prom is Senior Prom, they decided to hold a true Senior Prom for the guests.

The group even voted for Prom King and Queen, with crowns and a celebratory dance to boot. As Debbie Horvitz, the activities director for the nursing home told ABC News, “One of the queens and kings were holding hands for the rest of the prom. The kids did a great job.”

Even the oldest person in the home, Eleanor Bessin, 101 years old, carries a photo around of her original prom date and was able to relive one of the happiest nights of her life.

The students even made corsages for all of the ladies in attendance, and brought in a photographer for prom portraits. These high school students are truly one of a kind and will probably never know how much their event really meant to those who attended.
