San Antonio Police Department Reported Over 230 DWI Arrests for Fiesta San Antonio

The San Antonio Police Department reported that this year’s Fiesta San Antonio saw an increased number of DWI arrests than last year.

As reported by the San Antonio Express-News, “a total of 233 arrests for driving while intoxicated from April 20 through April 30 were made.” This number increased from 222 in 2015 to 233 this year. While this jump isn’t a very large one, it’s still disheartening to see the numbers rise by even one tick.

For 2016, “the majority of those arrests, 138, were for first offenses, while 26 were for second offense and 20 for felony third offenses.” On charges of a DWI with an open container, 12 people were arrested and eight DWIs were given with a children under 15 in the vehicle. 29 drivers had a BAC over .15 in road tests.

The city also saw four fatal crashes during Fiesta San Antonio, but they weren’t directly linked to the festival itself so the San Antonio Police Department is attributing them to a coincidence.

The bright side? 2016 was the fourth year in a year to have no fatalities linked to the celebratory event.

If you’re ever out and about drinking, stay off the road. You can be a danger to everyone.
