This East Texas School Began an Amazing Tradition, the Senior Walk
While most high school seniors hardly interact with younger students, the Van Independent School District began a fantastic tradition with its Senior Walk.
The Van ISD Facebook page recently shared the sweetest tradition that they are beginning from this year forward. The graduating Class of 2016 put on their full graduation regalia and walked through the halls of the campuses of the Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle Schools.
The younger students sat in the hallways in a line as the seniors walked through, applauding them and looking on brightly the entire time. This walk, known as the Senior Walk, will become a time-honored tradition that shows the true power of community, regardless of age.
A few seniors responded to the experience, per the Van ISD Facebook page, with incredible quotations. Senior Ashley Mosley said, “I never knew how much of an influence we had on the younger kids, but seeing their faces light up as we walked through the halls and high-fived them, it really put it in perspective for me.”
Another senior, Sabrina Swinford, stated that, “It was a nice reminder of where we’ve come from. At least for me, being a thirteen-year student, it was nice to retrace my steps today.”
This tradition promotes the feeling of coming together as a community send a whole graduating class out in the real world. As the old adage says, it’s takes a village to raise a family.
