New Contact Lenses Reshape Your Eyes While You Sleep
Corneal refractive therapy lenses or CRT lenses are an exciting new treatment that may help eliminate glasses and contacts from your life during the daytime. By wearing CRT lenses at night, your eyes will still receive oxygen and be temporarily reshaped to solve nearsightedness.
Nearsightedness refers to when people have blurry views of things far away from them. This often effects young people. In fact, doctors say that many more people are nearsighted now than they were in the past.
KXAN spoke with Dr. Stephanie Colorado of Stars In Your Eyes in Austin. She said, “It is kind of an epidemic. We want to be able to provide our patients with an alternative that will hopefully help delay nearsightedness.” She also notes that “patients have to be under -6 as far as nearsightedness, and under -2 for astigmatism.”
Children from ages 8 – 13 will see the best results since their eyes are still developing and this can delay the nearsightedness decent. Luckily, people of all ages can make use of CRT lenses. Though some insurance companies don’t feel the lenses are necessary, so it’s more difficult to get them covered financially. Costs can run up to $1200 if they’re deemed “cosmetic” despite their obvious practical application.
