Texas Woman Files Complaint about Sign in Constable’s Office
Ariane Daughtry went into the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office to file a complaint concerning a deputy using abusive language. She didn’t expect to feel intimidated by a sign she saw hanging next to the receptionist that read, “If you have a complaint, press the red button.” The red button was in a mouse trap.
She told KHOU that, “When I think about a mouse trap, I think about a rat. And it’s very disgusting because I’m neither…How many people have seen this and felt I’m not going? They don’t know the repercussions.”
The sign is meant to be funny and is apparently mass produced. A quick Google search turns up ways to purchase the signs, though it might not seem suited for all workplaces. KHOU reported that the sign has already been removed by officials who say they didn’t know about it.
Local activist Quanell X still isn’t pleased with the Constable’s Office. He said, “Because the community should not be the ones to have to bring it to your attention that it’s wrong. What you’re doing is creating an environment in which citizens are afraid to file complaints against cops.”
Daughtry still filed her complaint about the officer despite the sign.
