Latin singer and legend, Juan Gabriel, passed away on Sunday at the age of 66. He wrote hundreds of songs sung by himself and talented artists like Selena and Rocio Durcal. Some of his hits include “Querida,” “Costumbres,” and “Siempre en Mi Mente.” Gabriel recently toured in 2015 where he headlined 32 shows in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The statement written by his family stated, “Juan Gabriel was a giant in the music industry and is as popular now as ever. As importantly, Juan Gabriel was a beloved father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons and grandchildren.”

Chron.com desribes Gabriel as reminiscent of “Elton John and Liberace. But Gabriel was an entity all his own and remained a potent commercial force even today.” Variety Latino managing editor Yoslin Acevedo expressed Gabriel’s importance to CBS. She said, “There was a song for everything. You fell in love, you listened to Juan Gabriel. You fell out of love, you listened to Juan Gabriel.”

Fans are mourning on social media and by paying their respects at his home in Santa Monica. For those interested in learning more about this legendary man, a miniseries about his life was already in the works to be released in November on Telemundo. Gabriel himself worked as a producer on the show, so more of his talent remains to be seen.
