After a Photo of Newborn Twins Hugging Went Viral, One Passed Away

On September 1st, the Buchmeyer family shared a photo of their newborn twins, Mason and Hawk, onto their Facebook page. The caption reads, “This picture was taken 11 days after they were born, it’s the first time they have ever touched and as soon as Mason felt Hawk he reached out for his arm and smiled this big. We thought it was time for everyone pulling for our boy to see this picture.”

The photo captures a sweet moment, and it struck an emotional chord with many viewers to see tiny baby Hawk receiving love from his brother while on a ventilator. It quickly went viral and has gained over 120,000 reactions and over 29,000 shares.

But on Wednesday morning, the Buchmeyers posted heartbreaking news. “Our hearts are saddened this morning as our sweet little man was called home to be with Jesus. He went very peacefully and we know he’s no longer suffering. Please give us some time to grieve and try to start the healing process.”

According to ABC 13, Hawk had a rare condition called “congenital diaphragmatic hernia or CDH, which is a defect in the diaphragm.” The hugging photo reminds us all that every moment is precious and should be savored since we never know what the next day brings.
