Texas Veteran Surprised With New Home in Selma

It’s not easy to trick U.S. Army Sgt. David Reid, but this time, the surprise was worth the effort. Reid and his wife, Veronica, stepped out of an SUV to see their brand new home under construction as part of an effort to give veterans new mortgage-free homes.

The not-yet-finished suburban Selma home was decorated with messages thanking Reid from the hearts of Pulte Group and Operation Finally Home who made the gift possible. The notes are handwritten in the frames of the home that will eventually be covered in sheetrock and forever contained within its walls.

Reid has persevered through a lot in his life, and he was all smiles seeing his family’s new abode. He was honored with multiple medals for his time serving in three tours overseas in both Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2010, he lost a leg due to a pressure plate trap in a doorway.

“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about my recovery, and it still is a process,” he told KSAT. Yet, Reid still looks to the future. His next step is to start medical school.
