A winning Mega Millions jackpot lotto ticket worth $49 million was sold in Balch Springs in Dallas County. Information about the winner hasn’t been reported yet, but as Chron.com states, they’re the first Texas resident winner since 2014.

The Mega Millions game is played across 44 states in America, and this time, the winner had to match numbers 36-39-42-45-48, Mega Ball 3, Megaplier: 2. Obviously, the odds of winning the big prize is incredibly low. According to MegaMillionStats.com, three people won $1 million from this week’s game, and 17 won $5,000. They also note that 680,425 people won a less than thrilling $1 prize.

MegaMillions.com says that the game began back in 1996 with only six states participating. It used to be known as the “Big Game.” Texas didn’t join in the fun until 2003, making it the “most widely played multi-state jackpot game.”

The largest jackpot total reached $656 million, but after this $49 million win, the pot will drop back down to $15 for the Friday, October 14th lotto drawing. Not that $15 million is anything to turn up your nose at! Anyone would be more than happy to receive that prize for picking some random numbers.
