After Car Was Towed, Texas Wrecker Caught Taking It for a Joyride

“I assumed it was going to the dealership,” Brian Montgomery told KHOU. Montgomery’s Nissan GTR was custom built to meet his needs as someone who has mobility issues. When the “transmission warning” light came on, he ordered a tow to the dealership, but his dash camera caught what happened to his vehicle before it made it to the mechanic.

Montgomery might not have noticed anything went wrong if he didn’t also have his sunglasses stolen. He decided to take a look at the tape and found that the wrecker had taken his car for a joyride through a neighborhood.

Perhaps the worst part is that the car was driving over 70 miles per hour through the suburban streets while on this joyride. Another maddening element caught on camera was the wrecker’s call to a friend boasting about driving the car, and even asking friends to join him in checking out the vehicle.

ABC 13 quoted Montgomery as saying, “It triggers emotional things of helplessness again. He unloaded the car at his house, his actual residence, took it around the block spinning the tires. Then calling his buddies up ‘you gotta come see this, come drive it.’ And he let all his buddies go drive the car around and it was all caught on film.”

Pearland Police are looking into the issue. The towing company, Royal Towing, says the wrecker was a contract worker.
