New Study Claims Texans Are the Worst Drivers

A new study boldly says that Texans are the worst drivers in the United States. Many Texans will nod their heads in agreement to the study’s claims, while others will say those are “fightin’ words.” Surely New York or California must have the worst drivers? Neither of those states cracked the top 10, though technically Texas is tied in first place with its neighbor, Louisiana.

CBS DFW says that Car Insurance Comparison looked at the data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to make their list. Texas moved up in rank from last year. The news writes that the study focused on “road fatalities, failure to obey road rules, drunk driving incidents and more. State transportation officials have said that at least one person has died on Texas roads every day for the past 16 years.”

Car Insurance Comparison says that Texas came in the top 15 of each category considered. “Drivers in Texas ranked third for Drunk Driving, ninth for Speeding, and ninth for Fatalities Rate per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Traveled,” they went on to explain.

The category that proved to be the best predictor of overall bad driving list was “careless driving,” which means drivers were doing other things like looking at a cell phone instead of watching traffic. Texas ranked 14th in this category, so remember to keep your eyes on the road!
