Brothers Build a Massive Snow Octopus

By  |

Three brothers, Austin, Trevor, and Connor Bartz, started making large and intricate snow sculptures in their front yard in 2012. LittleThings.com writes that each year, they choose a new sea creature to take shape in the snow.

The artistic siblings were featured on NBC Nightly News where they explained their process. First, they gather up mounds of snow and shovel it into their garage. Then they wait about 45 minutes for the snow to melt enough to become slushy. From there, they can pack it onto the form of the sculpture as it freezes outside. They don’t make a blueprint nor do they thoroughly plan the piece. The Bartz brothers like to let the sculpture take shape as they work.

Right now, they’re working on a new fish sculpture. You can check out their progress on their Facebook page Bartz Snow Sculptures. Their famous octopus was last year’s creation.

While many Texans haven’t had nearly enough snow at their disposal to make a sculpture anywhere near this size, those unfamiliar with snow can imagine how hard it would be to complete this project out of sand at the beach. Perhaps someone should invite these two out to Galveston to construct a sandy sea creature emerging from the Gulf!
