Over 100K Skittles Fell Off a Truck and Onto the Highway

A highway in Wisconsin became covered in Skittles this week when a batch of the candies fell off of a truck. Hundreds of thousands of red Skittles littered the ground, and because it was raining, their candy coating washed off, leaving a large patch of red pavement for cleaning crews to spray away.

Fox 9 says that “the Skittles were in a large box on the back of a flatbed truck. It was raining at the time, and the box got wet and gave way, spilling the candy onto Highway S.” So why did this truck have a huge box full of red candy? The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office explained the ordeal on their Facebook page. They stated that the “Skittles were intended to be feed for cattle as they did not make the cut for packaging at the company. In the end, these Skittles are actually for the Birds!”

Since this news story spread across the internet, Skittles’s maker, Mars Inc., caught wind of the incident. Philly.com writes that now they’re opening an investigation since they are unsure as to what manufacturing facility gave out these candies as animal feed. There might be more to clean up than a highway spill.
