At the age of 80, actress Mary Tyler Moore has passed away. The actress was famous for her starring role on the “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and her namesake sitcom, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” TMZ had previously reported that Moore was on a respirator for over a week prior to her death. Many news media outlets have identified that further details are being determined and the story is still developing.

Her leading roles as Laura Petrie on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” and Mary Richards on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” were synonymous with inspiration for women, both in and out of the industry. Her forays into the film industry included such notable projects as “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and “Ordinary People,” for which she garnered a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Moore was passionate about animal rights and diabetes mellitus type 1, which she had been diagnosed with at a young age, during the production of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” She wrote two memoirs, the first of which dealt with her battle with alcoholism – a very public way to end the stigma around an issue that plagues many, star or otherwise, and she was highly acknowledged and regarded for doing so. Her activism and proactive approach towards real issues will be greatly missed, and her body of work that remains, truly treasured.
