Nurse Shortage Leads to Fast-Track Program From Concordia University
The demand for working nurses is high throughout the United States. KXAN quotes Dr. Kathy Lauchner, Ph.D., R.N., director of Concordia’s School of Nursing, who explains, “Part of it right now is the aging population, and the amount of chronic illness that is in the population.” Concordia University has responded by creating a fast-track program for nurses to get out into the field sooner.
For a standard Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the university, students can expect to study for two school years and take a summer off. The new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will allow students to take classes online and skip through the summer break, though they will be expected to take the same number of clinical hours.
Concordia feels that this program will work best for those who already have real world experience and aren’t fresh out of high school. “They gotta go faster, work harder and work quicker. They will graduate a semester earlier, consequently they will be employable a semester earlier,” Dr. Lauchner explains.
On their website, Concordia University says that the program will have three starting dates throughout the year, so if you’re considering a career change, the accelerated nursing program might be the right choice!
