Houston Man Gets Duct Taped to a Yield Sign Because His Friends Wouldn’t Yield on a Bet

Houston, Texas motorists were treated to a bizarre sight when a man later identified to be Miguel Chavez, was left duct taped to a yield sign in the northeast part of the city as a result of losing a bet. As it turns out, Chavez bet against the Warriors in March, and paybacks are a…sticky situation.

Betting on the Warriors/Rockets game, Chavez lost to his friends (well the word “friends” is actually debatable considering police were unsure in the matter as well) which resulted in being duct taped to a yield sign. But that wasn’t the worst of the situation. His friends recorded the incident (with their video being aired on CBS affiliate KHOU,) and were about to leave him hanging when a passer-by called the police.

When the cops arrived on-scene, this prank could have taken a turn for the worse had cooler heads not prevailed. Local ABC affiliate WFAA also reported on the story, and identified that one of Chavez’s friends approached him with a knife in an effort to cut him down, when a police officer who was unsure of the circumstances ordered him to back away from Chavez, stating “Drop the knife or I’ll tase you.”

Thankfully, the incident didn’t intensify beyond that, as Chavez’s friend explained what the circumstances were, including the original bet and subsequent outcome, after which the police allowed him to be cut down from the sign. They even went a step further and agreed to give him a ride home. Sounds like he was lucky it was just duct tape and not crime scene tape!
