Plano Police Arrest a Man Wielding a Samurai Sword in a Neighborhood
In a neighborhood near the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Plano, Texas, a man was arrested on Thursday for wielding a samurai sword while wearing a mask, cape, and armor. Police approached the man after they received calls that he was walking down Independence Parkway. They blocked off both sides of the street in an attempt to stop the man in his tracks.
Plano Police Officer David Tilley told Fox News, “When you’re dealing with someone with a sword, you want to keep your distance away. So a taser isn’t a viable option.” When police realized that the man wasn’t going to surrender as he continuously struck fighting poses, they used force by firing rubber bullets three times at the cloaked man. According to Dallas News, Tillery said, “When it hits them, then it kind of stuns them and most often they drop what they’ve got and that’s when our officers are able to jump in and take the individual into custody.”
Police believe that the individual is suffering from some sort of mental illness or breakdown. He was detained by 10:15 a.m. with the samurai sword seen lying out of place on the neighborhood sidewalk.
