Texas RenFest Says No to Hosting the Middlelands Music Fest Again

By  |

Over the weekend of May 5th, the RenFest grounds at Todd Mission, Texas were used to host an electronic music and camping festival organized by Insomniac and C3 events. Footage from the fest makes it seem like a magical weekend for young people full of music, activities, lounging around in the sun, and fireworks. While the event was deemed a success, RenFest officials say they’ve already decided to not move forward with hosting Middlelands next year.

KHOU says that over 60,000 people attended the event, which is why neighbors of the festival grounds weren’t happy with it. They voiced their disapproval of the event at City Hall where they cited traffic, thumping noise, and drug and alcohol use as reasons why they wouldn’t stand for the three-day event next year. One woman even went so far as to say, “When I called Saturday and they said it was going to go on Sunday I said I’m just going to kill myself.”

Other neighbors thought it went well. Harry Callicotte said, “We thought we saw a lot of good, responsible young people having fun. We don’t down the rodeo just because wagon trains clog up the traffic. We work it out and deal with it.”

On their website, the Middlelands festival says that while they’re no longer welcome on RenFest grounds, the event will return next year. Fans should stay tuned to find out more as plans develop for 2018.
