The U.S. Fire Administration Urges People to Make One Simple Change to Stay Safe

By  |

The phrase “Stop, drop, and roll,” is ingrained into our brains, and we know to keep our smoke detectors in working order, but what about other fire safety information? KVUE recently reported that the U.S. Fire Administration says, “Fire deaths are on the rise. In 2012, 2,855 people died nationwide from fires, but the most recent data from 2015 shows 3,275 people died.”

One simple change people can make is to close their bedroom door at night. It might sound like a ridiculously easy thing to do, but the simple action can save lives. Maria Pina with Colorado River Fire Rescue told the news that she saw a child survive a raging fire because the black smoke and synthetic fumes from items in the house were kept away from his room by a closed door. “If the door would have been open, the child would have passed away,” she said.

Visit the U.S. Fire Administration website to find out more info on fire prevention and safety tips. They even have free webinars covering more specific topics like food truck safety, how to survive a fire in a crowd, and the fire risk behind e-cigarettes.
