Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital Announces More Layoffs

By  |

After cutting 112 jobs in January, Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston announced on Tuesday that they will be letting another 350 employees go. The major hospital isn’t alone in having to make cuts to their staff. Click2Houston.com reports that M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and St. Luke’s Hospital ended the employment of around 800 this year in a job-losing trend across the industry.

The interim president for Memorial Hermann, Chuck Stokes, said in a statement that the facility is being forced to adjust to the “new normal” of the health care industry. “We continue to face an uncertain health care environment with escalating costs and declining reimbursements. In addition, we are impacted by a softened local economy,” he said, maintaining that patients will still receive the utmost in care.

Chron.com reports that the employees who lost their jobs found out the same day the layoffs were announced. Jobs were pulled from all levels of employment within their 25,000-person staff.

Memorial Hermann has been a part of the Houston community for the past 110 years. Stokes says, “Our system is strong, we are financially sound, and we will continue to further our mission of advancing the health of all those whom we serve.”
