Goodwill Worker Finds $39K in an Old Purse

We’ve all heard stories about people finding lost wallets on the ground with a few hundred dollars inside. When they’re returned with all of the cash intact, we celebrate the finder’s sense of right and wrong. But can you imagine finding a sum of $39,000? That’s what happened to Goodwill Assistant Manager, Kindell Keyes, in New York.

ABC 13 reports that the employee discovered over $39,000 in cash inside of an old purse that was donated by a family of a 101-year-old woman who recently passed away. Keyes showed her co-worker, and the two put the cash in the bank and worked on tracking down whoever donated the bag. Thankfully, there were documents in the purse, as well, that helped them find the owner. The old woman’s grandson came forward to retrieve the bag, and to thank the sweet employee by giving her $4,000 as a reward. Keyes says she will be putting it in the bank, not in a purse!

The Huffington Post quotes the woman’s grandson as saying, “She was two weeks away from being 102 years old. So, she kind of grew up during the Depression and everything so she kind of hid things around the house. I was actually very grateful that there are people in the world that are honest and it humbles me.”
