UPDATE: As of 7:15 p.m. on November 5, 2017, it has been reported that at least 26 victims have died and at least 20 were injured as a result of the shooting.
Sutherland Springs, Texas: According to local authorities, a lone gunman who opened fire at a local church today is now dead after having left behind a number of wounded and multiple people reported killed. Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr. has noted to NBC News that the shooter operated alone.
In details released by KSAT and reported by Thehill.com, Sutherland Police have identified that more than one dozen people were shot resulting in several fatalities. Witnesses have since reported seeing the man enter the First Baptist Church and begin shooting at approximately 11:30 a.m. Central Time.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott took to Twitter shortly afterward saying, “Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response.” According to NBC, Sherri Pomeroy, wife of church pastor Frank Pomeroy, explained that her husband is presently out of town, however, at the time of the reported shooting, their daughter was inside the church.
