Rural Texas Animal Shelter Receives $430K Mystery Donation
The Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter has started off 2018 with a wonderful mystery. WFAA writes that this rural Texas animal shelter located west of Fort Worth received a donation totaling about $430,000, and few people know who it came from.
Jerry Blaisdell, once a city manager for Weatherford, was heavily involved in making improvements on the Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter, and he represented the estate of the couple who decided to leave their wealth to the shelter. “They really did not want to be publicly identified,” Blaisdell told the Weatherford Democrat. “I have agreed to do that. That is probably one of the things I’ve wrestled with the most having known them but I will honor that.”
The couple didn’t have any children but adored their pets. The mystery woman who donated her and her husband’s estate adopted two dogs from the shelter while she was battling cancer and their relationship was said to have been incredibly close.
The shelter has the capacity for about 225 animals, but they’re stretched to their limit, so the money will go toward expanding their facility. “It’s a gift that will have profound effects on the future animals that come through the shelter in this county,” Dustin Deel of the Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter told the Weatherford Democrat.
