The personal bank account of Richard Overton has recently been credited by the Bank of America after having been defrauded as a result of identity theft. Overton, a long-time Texas Hill Country resident living in Austin, had his Social Security number stolen and bank account compromised, leaving his personal account depleted. The 112-year-old man’s family reported the incident to local authorities last week. Thankfully, this money was kept separate from an online fundraising campaign to allow Richard independent living together with 24-hour, in-home care.
Seven withdrawals were identified to have been made from the personal account over the course of the theft, which took place over a number of months. A police report was filed as soon as this was realized. Richard’s cousin Volma Overton stated that the family was shocked when the Bank of America requested that they come in and sign for having the funds restored into Richard’s account. He didn’t reveal how much money comprised the theft, but did note that it was a “significant amount.”
