More Than 200 Longhorns Seized from Hill County, Texas, Are Up For Adoption

Hill County deputies seized roughly 350 Longhorns from Aquilla in February 2018. Approximately 20 of the cattle died, however, these deaths took place on the property from which they were seized. Over 100 were sold, and authorities also stated that still more had to be euthanized. The cattle were malnourished, and the Humane Society of North Texas was awarded custody of the animals in March and is now accepting applications for their adoption.

Within the mix are 87 cows, 63 heifers, 29 calves, 20 bulls, and 13 steers. Effective July 31, 50 of the herd can be viewed at the link provided here. The Humane Society of North Texas stated on Monday, August 1 that “The cattle appear to be predominantly Longhorn or Longhorn crosses.” Adoptions arranged for the herd will be taking place at the ranch belonging to the Humane Society of North Texas, located in Joshua.

In the process of following up on the seizure, warrants were issued for the owner of the Longhorns. However, officials have stated that they haven’t been able to find her. If you have interest in adopting one or more of these Longhorns, at the request of the Humane Society of North Texas, you must agree that the animals will be kept for the remainder of their natural lives and will not be sold for slaughter.
