Chris Kyle ‘American Sniper’ Statue Arriving in Odessa
Back in August, plans for the $400,000 Chris Kyle memorial were unveiled to the public by the Odessa Community Foundation in honor of the late war hero who was born and raised in the West Texas town.
According to the Odessa American, the memorial covers 2,800 square feet in a plaza and is “composed of granite and Texas limestone, cut from a quarry near Odessa that will be shaded by live Oak trees from former President George W. Bush’s ranch.”
While there is still about $100,o00 work that needs to be done on the statue, new images show the progress. The foundation of the Chris Kyle Memorial Statue has already been constructed, weighing more than 40,000 lbs.

“We’re all very proud he was born here,” said Kirk Edwards, the Chairman of the Chris Kyle Memorial Task Force. “I think everyone who went and saw the movie takes ownership of this boy from West Texas, which is really cool. It’s going to be a piece of art for us to have in West Texas, for people, and veterans, and all of us to be proud of for many years to come.”
Kyle’s autobiography from the Iraq War, in which he recounts becoming the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, went on to become a film starring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood.
Since its release in 2014, there have been several pushes by Texas government officials to honor the warrior in his home state.
