Texas Braces for Severe Storm System This Week

By  |

According to AccuWeather, a strong storm system brewing over northern Mexico will be the cause of severe storms across Texas into Wednesday night.

While flooding will be the greatest threat throughout Texas and the south-central U.S., these storms will also be capable of producing dangerous wind gusts, damaging large hail, and lightning strikes. If the atmospheric conditions are right, the storms will be capable of producing tornadoes.

Texans should be on the lookout from Monday night until early Thursday morning with the greatest threat being on Wednesday.

AccuWeather‘s Senior Meteorologist Bernie Rayno reported that they “expect severe thunderstorms to develop in eastern Texas during Tuesday evening. This is the type of setup that can hit Houston hard with high winds and flooding during the early morning hours on Wednesday.”

If you’re traveling these next few days into Austin for SXSW, planning a low-key vacation to the Hill Country, or going about your daily commute, keep an eye on weather conditions. Stay tuned in to your local news stations to hear reports on potential flooding closures and accidents.

Remember, in the rain, it’s safer to arrive late than drive without care and never make it there at all.
